American Gladiators: Fury
Fury is one of the most aggressive American Gladiators. She chased down a mugger who stole the purse with her audition tape in it, and she chased after the casting calls to be seen in person.
"On Friday, I heard about the tryouts in New York on Saturday," said Fury. "I couldn't make it. I tried to figure out okay, can I fly to Chicago the next day and try out there? That just wouldn't happen either. I thought okay, if it's not meant to be, it's not meant to be. Maybe next year. And I went to Chad at the Expo office said, 'Oh, have you ever considered being on American Gladiators.' And I was like, 'Oh my God, I watched the show nonstop when I was little.'"
By the time she was chosen for the show, she already had her name. "I always am teased because I don't really get upset about things. I don't get angry with people. I don't really get mad. You push me and you push me and it's not a really big deal, and then I break. I lose it usually on something that doesn't really need to be angry about. But I've taken so much it's like you just snap. It's like I'm always saying, oh, that makes me furious. So a friend of mine and I, we were riding in the cab from the American Gladiator thing, it's like, 'Oh, you're Fury. You're just always Fury. You're either not upset or you're furious. You are Fury.' Yes. It does fit me perfectly."
She applies her fury to the contestants on events like Hang Tough. "I refer to it as pursue and punish. You get to chase them down. It's one of the only ones where you really get to do that. The Wall is a similar aspect but I don't know, everyone seems to be pretty decent at The Wall, so it's funny. It's the same with all sports. The caliber of athletes these days is so much better than ever before, so the contestants are better, the gladiators are better. The contestants aren't the wusses climbing up the wall. They're really scampering up the wall, so we have to be that much better at it. It's a fair fight these days."
Fury felt some of the original Gladiators episodes were a stacked deck in favor of the stars. Not so in this version. "It's not like you watch some of the old ones and you feel like all right, she's definitely going down. This is a lot different. Again, I don’t really have a least favorite one. I was actually really nervous going in. We don't play a lot of contact sports. We don't wrestle. You don't learn to wrestle growing up as a female. So I was really nervous about the wrestling one, the Earthquake one and it turned out okay. I kind of feel like that one, there are so many things that can go wrong. You have an idea what's going on, you say oh, you're going to toy with them. I'm like, 'I'm not toying with anybody. I am here to win. They're here to win money. They're not toying with me.' So it was a lot of fun. I was a little nervous about it but it turned out to be one of my favorite things to do. I'm not sure if it's going to be coming back."
American Gladiators airs Mondays.
