Paprika
Here's how much I love Blu Ray. I hate anime. It just bores me, does nothing for me artistically. But I accepted the Blu Ray of Paprika just to see something on Blu Ray. The movie still did nothing for me, but I saw what disinterested me so much more clearly.
On Blu-Ray: Paprika
2D animation does not necessarily offer all the minute details that the high definition format excels at displaying. Most of the shapes are filled in with solid colors, so what you get is the bright vibrance of those colors. Anime, however, does offer a little more shading, especially in the backgrounds, so you see the detail there.
The film has plenty of F'ed up, colorful, trippy visuals. As the parades of creatures flood the screen, the Blu Ray distinguishes each one in all its glory. Now if I can appreciate that, imagine how much a real anime fan will love it.
