Lake Bell plays the romantic foil in Over Her Dead Body. She's a psychic trying to hit it off with her client (Paul Rudd) grieving his dead fiance (Eva Longoria Parker). Unfortunately, the fiancé's spirit is still around, haunting her to ruin their relationship. The spiritual deception leads to plenty of comic pratfalls.
Kate Bell Tries Love Over Her Dead Body
"Basically after every job that I do I have a myriad of bruises," said Bell. "Whether it’s a comedy or a drama I’m always throwing myself. I’m like, ‘ Maybe if I throw myself over the table and then that falls on the…’ I like my stunt double, this girl Jennifer Badger who I worked with on Surface because she always just basically shows me what to do and then she knows I want to do it anyway."
Bell had studied stage fighting, which helps her with the physical comedy. "I do want to officially kick ass. I think Surface was really fun because I got a year of just like stunt camp. But you know on What Happens in Vegas where there’s like a fight, I love comedy, physical fights."
Don't confuse her for a real psychic. She just plays one in the movie. "I believe that certain people are more connected to their spirituality than others. I’ve never experienced something and had a vision or something. However I believe some people do. There’s nothing to prove either way."
Over Her Dead Body
With Rudd playing her leading man, there was plenty of improvising on the set. However, in the PG-13 romantic comedy, most of it will not make the cut. "A lot of that stuff is like, ‘Are we still rolling because it’s X-rated now.’ But between Jason and Paul and Eva and Lindsay there’s definitely a lot of improv. I think naturally actors want to organically figure out things anyway. That always happens."
Over Her Dead Body opens to theaters February 1st.
