Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins puts Martin Lawrence in the middle of a crazy family. Coming home for his parents' anniversary puts RJ Stevens (Lawrence) right back in the dysfunctional childhood he left behind to become a successful talk show host. Of course, throughout all the shenanigans, he learns something too.
Martin Lawrence Gets Welcomed Home
"This was something I wanted to do with this ensemble cast, that I think is very funny as a family movie, and we know how important family is," said Lawrence. "It’s just what it is. For me, I love the heart that it has. I love it reminding us that we need to stay true to what started us, which is family. So for me it was big. That’s why I wanted to do this movie."
Don't worry, it's not all heart. Lawrence gets into some slapstick, particularly in an obstacle course race against Cedric the Entertainer. "The obstacle course, I was just glad I was in shape for it, because I didn’t realize we were going to have to do so much physical stuff. I just thank God I play a lot of basketball and exercise because we really had to put it to the test."

The course has the comedians plod through tires, climb monkey bars and more, but it was the simple stuff that taxed Lawrence. "The most challenging? I don’t know, probably some of the sprints, some of the sprint stuff, yeah. We shot that about three, four days. It was probably a whole week."
Even rainy weather didn't stop the comic set piece. "Not all in the rain. [One] day it rained, but that was special though, the day of the rain, because how we all stood together and just supported each other, sang songs, laughed until the rain subsided. So that was a special day."
Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins opens to theaters February 8th.
