Guillermo del Toro has gone from the top of the short list of directors for The Hobbit to '99% confirmed.' What can I say: the rumors are correct all the time, 99% of the time.

Why would we think that Guillermo del Toro is that much closer to The Hobbit? Well, this announcement for one. Though the translators are talking Spanish and French, it has been confirmed that one of the speakers says, "Guillermo will direct The Hobbit."

Besides the video above, the good people at theonering have discovered from an inside source at New Line that the only thing stopping Del Toro's involvement will be delays in pre-production. What kind of delays? Cough - writers strike - cough.
