Though last week ended with a tentative agreement between the WGA and AMPTP, that didn't necessarily mean that the strike was over. The WGA presidents thought the new deal was good, sure, but we still needed the rest of the writers out there to agree to the terms.

It's Over

Polling took place at the Writers Guild Theater in Beverly Hills and 92.5% of the 3,775 ballots cast were in favor of ending the 100-day strike. What the other 7.5% were hoping for, I cannot say, but thank goodness their opinion didn't take priority.

With the strike concluded, the WGA announced that writers could return to their posts immediately. According to the WGA West prexy, those writing for the February 24th Oscar ceremony got back to work by Tuesday night.

"This is a day of relief and optimism for everyone in the entertainment industry," read the statement credited to CBS' Leslie Moonves, MGM's Harry Sloan, NBC Universal's Jeff Zucker, News Corp.'s Peter Chernin, Paramount Pictures' Brad Grey, Sony Pictures Entertainment's Michael Lynton, Walt Disney Co.'s Robert Iger and Warner Bros.' Barry Meyer.

"The strike has been extraordinarily difficult for all of us, but the hardest hit of all have been the many thousands of businesses, workers and families that are economically dependent on our industry. We hope now to focus our collective efforts on what this industry does best -- writers, directors, actors, production crews, and entertainment companies working together to deliver great content to our worldwide audiences."

A lot of the studios claim that the strike was a learning lesson. What was the trick to success? Talking eye to eye.

Yeah, I can see that.

Though they don't get as much credit, laid off film crews will be able to return to work with the writers.
