American Idol Season 7 Week 1 (Ladies) Recap

The top 12 girls also had the challenge of the songs of the 1960s. How do you make these over forty year old songs seem current? They gave it their best shot.
Here is the breakdown in order from best to the rest:

Ramiele Malubay – “You Don’t have to Say You Love Me” – belted this ballad, beautiful voice – Randy said loved it, started slow built up, classy – Paula said force to be reckoned with – Simon said out sang every single person.
Alaina Whitaker - “Love You More Today than Yesterday” – the real deal, clear lovely tone – Randy said year of the young ones, goin’ on – Paula said nailed it – Simon said I think you’re very good.
Asia’h Epperson – “Piece of my Heart” – a natural, good voice and performance – Randy said good – Paula said good moments – Simon said favorite of the night.
Syesha Mercado – “Tobacco Road” – enjoyable performance, a real threat – Randy said you can sing, couple pitchy things – Paula said consistent, joyful, fun – Simon said probably one of the most talented girls this season.
Alexandrea Lushington – “Spinning Wheel” – entertaining performance, good voice – Randy said blew the doors off, it was hot – Paula said took control of performance, confident – Simon said I didn’t get it, like an awful musical.
Carly Smithson – “The Shadow of your Smile” – pure voice, strong and confident – Randy said that’s what the show is about, best vocal of the top 24 – Paula said beautiful, infectious – Simon said let down, not fantastic.
Brooke White – “ Happy Together” – singing good, maybe could have done a little more with it – Randy said started rough, ended ok, needs to get her ‘slayin on’ – Paula said have your own thing, great job – Simon said it was very you, sang it well.
Kady Malloy – “Groovy Kind of Love” – nice tone to her voice, performance underwhelming – Randy said restrained – Paula said need to see more life – Simon said agrees with Paula, needs to lighten up.
Amanda Overmyer – “Baby Please Don’t Go” – not as good as Hollywood week, a little scattered – Randy said bluesy rocker chick – Paula said love everything you do – Simon said I like you.
Amy Davis – “Where the Boys Are” – pitchy parts, ended well – Randy said lot of pitch problems, not great for me – Paula said camera loves you, nerves – Simon said boring song, cabaret.
Kristy Lee Cook – “Rescue Me” – pretty girl, song needed more pep, Randy said pitch problems – Paula said good job (acknowledged her having the flu) – Simon said song didn’t suit you, robotic.
Joanne Borgella – “ Say a Little Prayer” – off key and behind the music in parts – Randy said voice felt shakey – Paula said pull it together, liked it didn’t love it – Simon said average cabaret version.
