American Idol Week 1 Results
The first person to be eliminated was Garrett Haley. It was very abrupt. Ryan just called him up and bye-bye. Garrett’s farewell performance of “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” was much improved over Tuesday night. I guess the nerves had gotten the best of him.
It was time for the first girl to go. Ryan asked for the adorable Amy Davis to join him. He delivered the news she would be leaving. Amy followed with a difficult and emotional version of “Where the Boys Are”.
We were then treated to the video of “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” from Randy Jackson’s upcoming album – featuring Paula Abdul. Although it was a shameless plug, it brought back the Paula of the 1980’s.
Next Ryan called up Amanda Overmyer and Joanne Borgella. Amanda was deemed safe. Joanne’s “Say a Little Prayer’ had a couple rough spots, but overall was better and more relaxed than the original performance.
Chikezie Eze and Colton Berry were brought to center stage. Ryan proclaimed Chikezie safe. Colton would be leaving. Paula told him he is young and talented and to keep singing. Simon said get a job as singing would not be his career. Despite the harsh words from Simon, Colton gave us a gutsy rendition of “Suspicious Minds”.
Stay tuned next week as we wind our way toward the Top 12. Guys perform Tuesday – Girls Wednesday – Results Thursday on Fox.
