We have advanced an entire decade in just one week. The theme this week is the 1970s – the decade of disco and great rock bands.

Let’s break down the contestants from the best to the rest.

American Idol S7 10 Men Finalist Recap

David Archuleta – “Imagine” – solid vocal, best thing I’ve seen him do, the competition may already be over – Randy said dog one of the best vocals I’ve ever heard on this show – Paula said you are ridiculous, moving performance – Simon said very risky but it worked, you’re the one to beat.

David Hernandez – “Papa was a Rolling Stone” – spot on vocal, very entertaining – Randy said that’s how to put it down, hot – Paula said voice pure, perfect – Simon said best vocal of the night so far.

Chikezie Eze – “I Believe” – redeemed himself from last week, song suited him well, showed personality – Randy said blazing hot, in it to win it – Paula said brilliant, fun – Simon said it worked, a million times better than last week.

Luke Menard – “Killer Queen” – did a difficult song justice, crisp vocal – Randy said liked you better this week than last – Paula said great week for you vocally – Simon said mistake, no charisma, theatrical, on the verge of whiney.

David Cook – “Alright Now” – good vocals, got the audience into it – Randy said really liked it, our rocker, good lookin’ out – Paula said the real deal, loved it – Simon said solid, believable.

Robbie Carrico – “Hot Blooded” – good vocals, nice ending, true rock performance – Randy said pretty good job, waiting to be moved – Paula said played it safe, needs to up the ante – Simon said vocal ok tonight.

Danny Noriega – “Superstar” – nicely done, much improved over last week – Randy said thinking while you were singing, just let it go – Paula said amazing vocal skill – Simon said better, you are interesting and stand out, look terrific on camera.

Michael Johns – “Go Your Own Way” – not quite reaching some of the notes, no excitement to the performance – Randy said started slow, liked it – Paula said consistent, got the crowd working – Simon said ok, weakest performance.

Jason Castro – “I Just Want to be Your Everything” – good tone but voice did not seem strong enough – Randy said vocals weren’t that great, just ok – Paula said clever choice of song, go without guitar next week – Simon said song horrible, vocals weak.

Jason Yeager – “Long Train Running” – has such a beautiful voice, just not the right song – Randy said pitchy, karaoke – Paula said be careful with song choice, pick singers songs – Simon said awkward and ordinary, good singer who can’t perform.

I expect we will hear some Donna Summer tonight as the girls perform their picks from the 1970s. Results Thursday night on Fox.
