Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Adapting novels and graphic novels has been all the rage this week. Not wanting to leave a day without a new adaptation, Fox 2000 has stepped up and acquired Jeff Kinney's best-selling illustrated novel Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Like all the other adaptations greenlit this week, Wimpy Kid has franchise potential.
Fox 2000 to Adapt Diary of a Wimpy Kid
Diary of a Wimpy Kid already has a producer onboard, Nina Jacobson, but is still seeking writers and a director.
Published in April 2007, Diary of a Wimpy Kid chronicles the travails of wise-cracking middle school student Greg Heffley over the course of an academic year, as told through Kinney's cartoons.
Spreading its wings as a franchise, a sequel, Dairy of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules, hit bookstores this month. The series is expected to contain five volumes.
