Gerard Butler
While we have known for some time that the animated Tales of the Black Freighter short will be attached as a companion piece to Zack Snyder's Watchmen, details on the vocal talent have been limited.
Going back to 300, Snyder has enlisted the help of Gerard Butler.
Butler Voices Tales of the Black Freighter
Empire caught up with Gerard Butler and has learned of the actor's involvement in the animated short, Tales of the Black Freighter. The story covers that of a comic read by a minor character in Watchmen. That's right, a comic inside a comic.
“I’m going to do the voice of the captain,” said Butler. “They’re going to do it in the style of a Japanese anime and I’m totally stoked.
“I actually read the script before reading the comic book and I thought it was awesome,” continued the 38 year-old. “Then I read the comic book and it’s great. The little bits that have been added define it so much more. It’s very dark and there’s just something so descriptive and scary. It’s this descent into madness but explained in such a sane way that you totally feel it yourself. By the end, my heart was pumping!”
To be honest, I didn't really get the relationship between Black Freighter and the overall Watchmen tale. I actually spedread a lot of these sections. Empire claims that the tale is important as it mirrors the arc of an important character.
