Since just about everything Judd Apatow touches turns to box office gold, a studio should be stoked to have him. Universal Pictures has become the next lucky one, as Apatow has set up the comedy Five-Year Engagement with the studio.
Apatow Brings Five-Year Engagement to Universal
Apatow and producing partner Shauna Robertson will reteam with the duo behind Forgetting Sarah Marshall: writer-director Nick Stoller and writer-star Jason Segel.
Described as a bawdy, couples comedy, Five-Year Engagement charts the five-year engagement of a man (Segel) and his fiancee, following the ups and downs of their relationship.
"It's definitely an extension of our desire to explore the depth of human misery," Stoller said. "If Sarah Marshall (played by Kristen Bell) and Jason's character had stayed together, this might be the sequel."
Becoming friends while working together on Apatow's TV series Undeclared, Stoler and Segal have not only stuck close ever since, but plan to co-write Five-Year Engagement. Should I signal the BFF alert?
Segel was recently cast to star opposite Paul Rudd in the DreamWorks' comedy I Love You, Man.
