Horton Hears a Who! One-Sheet Horton Hears a Who!
With good reviews and a genre that hasn't had all that much attention of recent, Horton Hears a Who has quickly become the biggest opening for 2008.

Horton Hears a Who! Earns Live-Action Money

Horton Hears a Who! rang up an impressive $45.1 million during its opening weekend at the box office. Supported by talent including Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, the latest CG-installment from Blue Sky Studios achieved the fifth largest debut of any G-rated animation while also scoring the fourth-best opening in March.

"It's a who-mongous opening," Fox senior VP of distribution Chris Aronson said. "Blue Sky has made a film that makes you feel like you are immersed in the pages of Dr. Seuss' world. It is colorful and vibrant, and so true to his work.

While Never Back Down couldn't come close to Horton, Summit Entertainment is more than happy with the $8.6 million earned by the mixed martial arts drama. The film is the first from the studio's new distribution arm.

Doomsday didn't fare as well. Though expected to give Never Back Down a run for the money, the film was only able to take in an estimated $4.7 million during its opening bow. The film is the first Rogue title to be released through Universal Pictures.

Thanks most in part to Horton, the weekend box office was up 8.5% from last year. Before its release, Cloverfield held the title for biggest 2008 opening with $40 million.

The only title Horton couldn't match was that of Dr. Seuss' other Carrey-supported adaptation, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, which opened to $55.1 million in 2000.
