Dune
Though it was mentioned before the end of the year, Variety has confirmed that Peter Berg will be getting behind the camera for the adaptation, or should I say remake, of Frank Herbert's classic sci-fi novel Dune.
Peter Berg to Direct Dune
For those stoked about the idea of a remake, you might want to write a "Thank You" letter to Kevin Misher, who has spent the past year obtaining book rights from the Herbert estate. He is now onboard to produce.
Herbert's 1965 novel is a sweeping, futuristic tale set on the remote desert planet Arrakis, which produces the interstellar empire's sole source of the spice Melange -- used for distant space travel. An empirewide power struggle ensues over the control of the spice.
David Lynch directed the 1984 version, which I absolutely loved. Sting as one of the villains? Absolutely genius!
As expected, Paramount expects the project to become a tentpole film. Now all they need are some writers.
Peter Berg last directed Hancock starring Will Smith.
