The Hobbit
The Hobbit has become quite the emotional rollercoaster. The first rumors were on whether Peter Jackson would be coming back. Thanks to a now-resolved lawsuit between the director/producer and New Line, things weren't looking good. Jackson later popped up promising he'd produce, but he didn't want to rush anything with tensions remaining between him and New Line.
Then the tensions were gone, and next came the task of finding a director. Sam Raimi's name popped on, off and then back on the short list of candidates. But it was Guillermo del Toro's that stuck. Hell, there was even a semi-official announcement made at a press hearing claiming he was up for the gig.
While we are still counting on him, new legal action between the Tolkien Estate and New Line is looking to throw the production off kilter once again. That is, if we can call what's happened so far 'production'.
Del Toro Orbiting The Hobbit -- But Nothing Signed
The good people at TheOneRing have caught up with Peter Jackson to talk Hellboy II and naturally wound up at The Hobbit.
“At this stage anything I say is of no consequence for I am not yet signed to do “The Hobbit.” Negotiations advance but are still ongoing,” he said.
The Mexican born director is busy however researching not only the Hobbit but the greater J.R.R. Tolkien library.
“All I can say is that I am diligently going through all Tolkien material related to Middle-earth but only as a way of bridging a gap in my reading. I still respond the strongest to “The Hobbit,” but as an avid reader of Mythology I find a lot of his other writings fascinating. A perfect Cosmology forged from very eclectic sources,” he said.
Guillermo del Toro goes on to describe his knowledge of the Tolkien books, which is vast. Check out the entire report on The Hobbithere.
