Ryan opened the show with news of the Season 7 mentors: Dolly Parton, Mariah Carey, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber and Neil Diamond. What interesting and diverse choices.
We are informed there will be a repeat of the songwriter competition. The winning song will be performed at the Idol Finale.
The Beatles medley ensued. It was just as bad as last week’s – what’s up with that?
American Idol: Top 11 Elimination Round
There were clips of last night’s performances.
Ryan shows us stools that will hold the bottom three and a two tiered sofa for the Top 10. Each contestant was brought out individually. Brooke White was the first to be proclaimed safe. Next up was Carly Smithson; she was directed to a stool as one of the bottom three. (I am shocked – aren’t you?) David Archuleta and Michael Johns were both guided to the sofa as two more of the Top 10.
Then in a break for drama, a film clip was shown on how the Ford videos are made.
Next David Cook was sent to the sofa as the next member of the Touring Top 10. Kristy Lee Cook was placed on the stool next to Carly as the second member of the bottom three. Jason Castro and Ramiele Malubay were both deemed safe.
Next were the wacky phone calls from Idol fans. Please stop this madness.
Season 5 alum Kellie Pickler performed her hit “Red High Heels”.
Ryan apprised us of the good Idol Gives Back has done in Angola. Fantasia and Elliot Yamin delivered bed nets to villagers to help prevent malaria. A baby boy was born while they were visiting and in keeping with tradition was named after Elliott.
Syesha Mercado was the next contestant added to the Top 10. Chikezie and Amanda Overmyer were brought out together. Chikezie made the Top 10. Amanda joined Kristy Lee and Carly center stage. Ryan declared Carly to be safe. It was now down to Kristy Lee and Amanda for the coveted final spot. Kristy Lee Cook was granted safety. Amanda Overmyer would be leaving. Amanda ‘performed’ her rendition of “Back in the USSR”.
We will see what the Touring Top 10 have to offer next week. Performances Tuesday – results Wednesday on Fox.
