Horton Hears a Who!
Good word of mouth and good reviews were enough to keep Horton Hears a Who afloat in its second weekend against what some might have thought to be bigger, wide releases.
Horton Hears a Who! Takes the Box Office for a Second Time
Though up against a new comedy from Tyler Perry and Owen Wilson in Drillbit Taylor, Horton Hears a Who only lost 45% of its opening audience to earn a respectable $25.1 million in its second frame.
Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns opened strong with a whopping $20 million to knock Paramount's comedy Drillbit Taylor down to fourth with $10.2 million. Perry has been on quite the run, but this Wilson-beatdown has to be a new high for the man who has excelled at black comedy.
Though Good Friday should have been one of the Lord's two days this weekend, the moviegoing audience proved strong for Horton, dropping only 23% to $10.3 million to kick off the weekend.
Thanks to Drillbit Taylor's low numbers, the film has quickly become Owen Wilson's second lowest, right behind 2004's The Big Bounce. Does anybody remember that? I didn't think so.
Closing out the top three was the Thai horror remake, Shutter. Scaring up $10.7 million, the numbers were in line with studio expectations.
