While we will likely never know if Gandolfini's Tony Soprano was killed during the series' finale of The Sopranos, continues to not allow his previous role to typecast him. Having once tried holiday comedy with Ben Affleck, the actor is now looking to join up with Denzel Washington and John Travolta in Tony Scott's remake of The Taking of Pelham 123.
James Gandolfini for The Taking of Pelham 123
Columbia Pictures has picked up James Gandolfini to play the mayor of New York City in Pelham 123. He will play a politic under incredible pressure to end a crisis when a packed subway car is ransomed by a criminal (Travolta) and his gang.
Having spent so many years with HBO, Gandolfini has not forgotten where his roots are grounded. The actor recently made a deal to return to HBO to play Sonny Vaccaro, the godfather of grassroots basketball whose camp launched the careers of dozens of NBA superstars. Friday Night Lights scribe David Aaron Cohen is writing the drama.
