National Treasure: Book of Secrets
While franchises like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings get all the attention, there are a few surprises now and then that earn kabajillions of dollars. One such surprise franchise is National Treasure and, though the sequel was not as er, surprising as the first installment, there is still plenty possibility on concluding the saga with a trilogy.
National Treasure Sequel Likely
While talking with director Jon Turteltaub, the good people at CinemaBlend have learned that the director does see a National Treasure sequel coming in the near future.
“I'm guessing that we're a few years away. By the time we come up with a decent idea and develop it into a complicated and intelligent puzzle it's going to be at least 2009. Then to prep it and cast it... it should be three years away.” That’d put it in 2011. Three years was about the time lapse between the first and second films as well, with the first one coming out in 2004 and the second in 2007.
Turteltaub goes on to defend that the franchise isn't driven by money. While I want to agree, no money from one means no money to go into the next. It's simple business. If the franchise is scoring with audiences, there is no shame in three installments. Four installments, however, might be questionable. Check out the entire interview here.
