American Idol American Idol
I don’t quite know what happened, but when I tuned in at exactly 9 p.m., our contestants were already singing the fun Dolly Parton hit “9 to 5”. Did the show start early? I digress.

Next were highlights of last night’s show.

Ryan pointed out the sofa of safety and the stools of shame. Michael Johns was out first and immediately sent to safety. Little David Archuleta presented himself center stage and was also granted a spot on the sofa. Carly Smithson joined the two guys in safety.

Once again the cheesy phone in segment. At least it was shorter this week.

American Idol: Top 9 Elimination Round

Since this week had a country them, the winners of Fox’s Next Great American Band, The Clark Brothers performed. Their version of “This Little Light of Mine” was pretty wild with some great guitar.

The weekly Ford ad featured out idols playing school yard hoops.

Back to the idols. Ryan brought out David Cook. He asked him about going to the hospital last night. David told us he has high blood pressure and the situation was blown out of proportion. He assured us he is fine and going nowhere. How true, as Ryan proclaimed him safe.

That was four contestants in a row on the sofa of safety. Ramiele Malubay was next out to meet Ryan center stage. She is sent to the stools of shame. No surprise here. Kristy Lee Cook followed Ramiele to the stools. Again, no surprise.

There was a video clip of the Idol alums that make their home in Nashville. Bucky Covington (Season 5) has a CD. Phil Stacey (Season 6) has a May release slated of his first CD. Bo Bice (runner up to Carrie Underwood in Season 4) now has his own record label and has released his second CD.

Syesha Mercado was added to the sofa. Jason Castro and Brooke White were the final two contestants. Jason Castro joined the others on the sofa. Brooke White was added to the bottom three. A bit of a surprise here.

Idol Gives Back raised $76 million last year and there are hopes to top that number next week. Miley Cyrus, Snoop Dogg, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and many, many more celebrities will be participating.

Miss Dolly Parton performed “Jesus and Gravity” from her “Backwoods Barbie” album. Still pretty cute for a 62 year old! Brooke was the first to be given a reprieve. Kristy Lee was then granted her stay. Ramiele Malubay would be departing this week. She was visibly upset and crying. Yet her performance of “Do I Ever Cross Your Mind” far surpassed the quality of last night. I will never understand how this happens.

Watch the Elite 8 fight it out next week – performances Tuesday night - Wednesday night Idol Gives Back - results show Thursday night on Fox.
