Casino Royale
An unexpected nemesis popped up on the set of Quantum of Solace Tuesday requiring Bond to hide behind some local authorities.
Unexpected Visitor to Quantum of Solace
It turns out that Carlos Lopez, the mayor of a remote northern Chilean town, still doesn't approve of Daniel Craig playing Bond. The official popped up on the set of the latest Bond installment somewhat irate.
"He got angry, entered into a private enclosure ... and caused public disorder and was detained," a police official said by telephone from Baquedano, declining to be named. "Now it is in the hands of the prosecutor."
Lopez interrupted filming when he placed his car between Daniel Craig and the cameras. What brought on this unexpected visit? The mayor was angry about what he called an excessive police presence in the small town. He also didn't like that Chilean land was being used to represent Bolivia.
"For a town that has just 1,000 residents, sending in special forces and water cannon, preventing people from walking in the street, reminded me of the worst of the Pinochet years," Lopez told Reuters.
"I also disagree with national territory being used as locations (to represent) other countries," he said. "Even in a fictional film, unfortunately friendly, neighboring countries use decisions like this to make unjustified claims."
Whatever he says, my theory still stands that the mayor is part of the "Daniel Craig is Not Bond" campaign.
