There Will Be Blood
The first thing you will likely notice about the 2-Disc Collector's Edition of There Will Be Blood is the old school cover. Like the film's posters, the DVD case for Blood is subtle, but strong. The paper cover helps give the film further authenticity. What it is authenticating I don't know, but still damn cool.
Anywho...
DVD Review: There Will be Blood
Since a majority of the moviegoing audience didn't catch There Will Be Blood in theaters, much of the film's DVD sales are likely going to come from those looking to buy something with an Oscar-winning background. Yes, Daniel Day-Lewis will be this film's major selling point.
I wish I could say the same for the DVD's extra features, but that is not the case here. Yes, there are a couple featurettes that are interesting, but they act as extra minutes on a film that is already considered by some to be too long. What can I say - the film is like a giant featurette about one business man with er, how do I say this, a competition in him.
Since I have been discussing how well DVDs upconvert in my recent reviews, I might as well be prudent and do the same here. While watching There Will Be Blood on DVD there were two things that stood out. Since the film was made to have an old school look, I wasn't that hard on it. In 1080i, the visuals didn't exactly start popping off the screen like other films, but there was a definite improvement in brightness and outdoor clarity. Other than that, watching the oil derrick burn at night looked great too.
There Will Be Blood arrives to DVD Tuesday, April 8th.
