Avalon Pictures has picked up Richard Gere for the Amelia Earhart biopic, Amelia, where he will star opposite Hilary Swank. The film chronicles the rocky relationship between the famed aviator and her husband, publisher George Putnam.
Mira Nair will direct off a screenplay by Ron Bass. Shooting is expected to begin later this month in Toronto, Nova Scotia and South Africa.
Once he's done with that, Gere will move onto something entirely different with Brooklyn's Finest. To be directed by Antoine Fuqua off a script by Michael Martin, Brooklyn's Finest revolves around three unconnected Brooklyn cops who wind up at the same deadly location, despite vastly different career paths. One has gone undercover to crack drug gangs; another has engaged in graft and corruption; while another has played by the rules and put in his time on the force up until his retirement.
Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke also star.
Gere is currently filming Hachiko with director Lasse Halstrom. These two recently worked together on The Hoax.
