Where do we go from here? Mariah Carey week turned out much better than I predicted. There were no bad performances. Each week gets tougher to tell one of our AI contestants good-bye.
Ryan told us they received the most votes thus far this season – almost 36 million.
In lieu of a medley, our idols sang “One Sweet Day”. Maybe they’ve given up on medleys. There is one week left to enter the AI songwriting competition.
American Idol: Top 7 Elimination Round
Now came elimination time. Ryan called out Jason Castro and sent him to the left side of the stage. He then brought out David Cook and sent him to the right side of the stage. Next out was Carly Smithson who was sent to join Jason on the left. Brought to center stage was Kristy Lee Cook. She was ushered to the right side to join David.
Up next was the Ford music video.
Elliott Yamin , Season 5 third place finisher, performed “Free”. Elliott looked and sounded great despite the recent loss of his mother.
The results process continued. Syesha Mercado was led to join Jason and Carly. Brooke White was placed with David and Kristy.
The phone in segment – what can I say? When will this madness end? I think it was longer than ever tonight.
This week’s mentor Mariah Carey, looking like a million bucks in a killer black dress, sang “Bye Bye” (ominous) from her new album E=mc2.
Ryan brought out the only remaining contestant, David Archuleta and proclaimed to him he was safe. In a sly fake out move, Ryan swapped David Cook and Syesha Mercado in the groups. David Archuleta was then asked to join the group that was safe. He promptly sat down in the center of the stage. After prompting from Ryan, he joined David, Carly and Jason. They would be returning next week.
Kristy Lee, Brooke and Syesha were the bottom three. Syesha was immediately sent to safety. Kristy Lee Cook was eliminated. She sang her song, “Forever”, to Simon. Her performance this week was not ‘elimination worthy’.
The Spectacular 6 will be vying for your vote to make the next step closer to the finale. Emotions will be running high. Performances Tuesday – Results Wednesday on Fox.
