Cloverfield
I was very impressed by Cloverfield. It made the gimmick of handheld point of view camera work. So the promise of additional material on the DVD piqued my interest, but of course these days, we know why stuff gets deleted.
DVD Review: Cloverfield
The deleted scenes consist mainly of party footage. There are some extra testimonials to the camera, but we definitely got the point of that. There is an additional moment with the subway rats, the cameraman hopelessly flirting with Marlena, and some medical treatment that seems tragic, but nothing major to the story or aesthetic.
The two alternate endings just show the same confessionals with different final reveals. One is completely insignificant, the other is completely obvious. Neither one actually alters the outcome of the story.
Some outtakes play like amateur improv. Most of these take place at the party too, playing with the pantomiming crowd. There's some goofing around in the bedroom too. The final blunder on the street set is pretty amusing.
The only easter egg I found was the helicopter in the setup menu. It just shows more goofing off for two minutes. Certainly not worth searching for.
So, Cloverfield remains a movie I'll watch over and over again. I just won't watch the extras ever again.
