Across the Universe
I've been waiting to see Across the Universe on Blu Ray. As you can tell by the release date, I have had to. I knew it was so artistic and colorful, it would look fantastic in HD. It was worth the wait.
On Blu-ray: Across the Universe
The color schemes of the film are glorious, from the happy pastels of pre-war America to the gritty slums of the UK. The greens stand out on the football field and college campuses, and the nighttime blacks are deep. Once you get into Bohemian New York, there are different color schemes lit up within the same frame.
Then all the artsy stuff is amazing. The lines of the military chins are so distinct it makes them even more surreal. All the choreography cuts through the frame. With backgrounds real or surreal, the characters just pop out, if they're carrying the Statue of Liberty across Vietnam or dancing in front of artificial clouds.
I don't even know how to describe the psychedelics, but the animated backgrounds of Eddie Izzard's dance number are like looking through a window at a world that doesn't exist, but if it did would look like that.
Yes, Across the Universe has plenty of visuals to demonstrate the glory of Blu Ray. It can be grainy or realistic, or smooth, clear and surreal.
