The self-deprecating cameo of Neil Patrick Harris in Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle was such a highlight, he had to come back for Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo. This time, Harris bails the boys out of trouble, instead of causing them more.

"I don't know what to make of it," admitted Harris. "I really don't know what to make of it. You don't want to be built up too high or else then everyone's going to get annoyed by you and want to tear you down, so it's flattering to a point and then you wonder if you're the butt of the joke or part of the joke. So I'm glad it's me. I guess it's nice that people know my name now."
The film continues to reference Harris's ouvre, with Rob Corddry playing a Homeland Security agent obsessed with Starship Troopers. "It's so funny, he's so straight and nice about it. He's not that comedian that needs you to know how funny he is. He's just like always on point so he just did that every take, just that intense and that excited about Klendathu and Starship F*cking Troopers. It was hard to not laugh at him."
With a knowing wink to his own work, Harris is happy to be the extreme version of himself. "I was very excited. It's like a Christmas present. I heard I was going to be in this and I got to download the script and then open it up and see what I got to do and how it played out, and I was pleased, very pleased."

Even Harris's own mind could not imagine what the script had in store for him. "They go pretty far. They go pretty far. Branding a giant titted stripper with my initials, my improv mind stops there."
However, even Harris had limits. "They wanted me to wear some weird mushroom induced outfit while atop the unicorn. They wanted the vision of me to be like in a vest with a weird tie-dyed feathered vest. And I said, 'Come on, no. You're jumping the shark.' Haven't the bloggers had enough fun with me sitting on a unicorn? Do I really need feathers and a tie-dyed vest on the thing?"
If Harold and Kumar have a third adventure, Harris is game. However, he would rather delve into the backstory. "I would like to see a prequel. I'd like to see how he got to be the drug addled, sex craved, hooker branding derelict that he is."
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo opens to theaters April 25th.
