American Idol American Idol
This seems to be the Season of Shockers. As we discussed last night, each week will be difficult, as the remaining Idol contestants have a huge fan base. It will come down to who the voters want as their next American Idol – not who is the best singer or performer.

The evening opened with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber accompanying the Spectacular 6 in a group rendition of “All I Ask of You” from Phantom of the Opera.

We were shown the recap of last night’s show. It was an interesting clip selection for Brooke, as they included the portion of her starting over. Lord ALW said of our Idols, “They’re really terrific!” Ryan had a little interview segment with Lord ALW. He told us this was more difficult than just performing in the theater. Here one had to perform for the studio audience, the judges and the t.v. viewing audience.

American Idol: Top 6 Elimination Round

The Ford music video followed – “Tainted Love”. (An homage to Danny Noriega perhaps?)

President and Mrs. Bush thanked the American people for their generous contribution of $65 million to Idol Gives Back.

The sofa of safety was still in place and only two stools of shame. So we will have a bottom two. We are sure who that will be – right?

The Davids were brought out first. No surprise here they were both safe.

Since musical theater was highlighted this week, we were shown a clip of the Idol alums on Broadway. Diana DeGarmo (runner up Season 3), Fantasia (winner Season 3), LaKisha Jones (fourth place Season 6), Tamyra Gray (fourth place Season 1) and Clay Aiken (runner up Season 2) have all appeared in Broadway musicals.

Simon’s protégé, Leona Lewis performed her hit “Bleeding Love”.

Now back to the elimination – next out were Syesha Mercado and Brooke White. One had a great night last night and one had to restart her performance. Which was in the bottom 2 – surprise it was Syesha!

Last pair of contestants to come out on stage was Jason Castro and Carly Smithson. Jason had a very difficult evening and Carly nailed it. Which was in the bottom 2 – surprise again it was Carly.

Both Syesha and Carly performed their ALW songs from Tuesday night. Neither were ‘elimination worthy’ performances.

After 38 million votes Ryan told us Carly Smithson would be leaving. She received a standing ovation from the audience. Simon gave her a few parting words – “You can leave with your head held high”. Carly was quite classy in her exit.

And you thought Jason and Brooke would be the bottom two. This showed how America is voting. In a side note, both our foreign born contestants have now been eliminated (Carly Smithson and Michael Johns).

Next week our Fab 5 will be performing the songs of mentor, Neil Diamond. Will the surprises continue? Performances on Tuesday – results on Wednesday on Fox.
