American Idol American Idol
Now we won’t ‘dread’ the Top 3 – finally in a move that should have come several weeks ago, Jason Castro has been eliminated.

Ryan opened the evening by telling us this was the largest number of votes cast this season. Of the 51 million votes, each of the Top 3 was within one million votes each.

The Top 4 sang Steely Dan’s rock hit, “Reeling in the Years”. The singing was relatively good, (especially David Cook) the choreography was, if I could borrow a word from Simon, atrocious.

Next up was the recap of Tuesday’s show. The producers chose to show it all – the good, the bad and the ugly.

American Idol: Top 5 Elimination Round

The elimination began. First out was David Archuleta. We knew he would be safe and he was.

Ryan announced next week’s show would feature hometown visits of the Top 3. Our Idol contestants were flown to Las Vegas on a private jet (not very ‘green’ AI). They were there to see The Beatles Love Cirque de Soleil. (I felt this was a nod to having performed from The Beatles songbook the first two weeks of competition.)

The eliminations continued. Out next was David Cook. My stomach was a little queasy for a moment. All one could think about was Chris Daughtry. But this was not to be David’s fate, he was deemed safe.

The Ford video showed our idols in full matador regalia singing Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire”. Who thinks up these things?

The terrible, awful phone in segment followed. In what was a very uncomfortable moment, Emily from Pittsburgh asked David Cook to go out on a date when the Idol Tour hits town. What was the poor boy supposed to say? Producers, I am pleading, ditch this part of the show. I know you want to stretch to fill an hour on results night, but a singing dog would be better than this.

Maroon 5 performed “If I Never See Your Face Again” from their second album “It Won’t Be Soon Before Long”.

Since Rock and Roll was this week’s them, Season 4 runner up (to Carrie Underwood), Bo Bice returned to the Idol stage. Bo rocked the new single “Witness” from his album “See the Light”. Ryan looked very stiff standing with the contestants as they grooved to the song.

Now for the ‘dreaded’ moment – Jason Castro was eliminated from the competition. America give yourself a pat on the back for doing the right thing. His farewell song choice was “I Shot the Sheriff” – good thing since he didn’t know the words to “Mr. Tambourine Man”. Syesha should opt for “Survivor” as one of her next song choices – how many weeks has she been in the bottom two or three?

As we edge ever closer to the finale, is it shaping up the way you thought it would? Will it be David vs. David? Next week home town visits – Performances Tuesday – Results Wednesday on Fox.
