American Idol American Idol
There were many times on American Idol that the stretching bordered on ridiculous. Tonight, it felt as if everyone was at a full sprint. Each contestant had three songs to perform – all in one hour. Our idols performed one song chosen by the judges, one by the contestant and one by the producers.

Season 7 Week 13 Top 3 American Idol Recap

Round 1 Judges Selections –

David Archuleta – performed Paula’s selection the Billy Joel ballad “And So It Goes”, she chose it to showcase his voice – yep, another ballad, nice but too many runs – Randy said dope song for you, you can sing anything, in the zone, in it to win it – Paula said pure and stunning performance, storyteller – Simon said very good, no surprises, predictable, good not outstanding.

Syesha Mercado – performed Randy’s selection the Alicia Keys’ hit “If I Ain’t Got You”, he chose it to let her sing something current – nice version, hit the notes, hate the dress – Randy said amazing job, you are peaking at the right time – Paula said I applaud you being the last women in the competition – Simon said sang it very well, look gorgeous.

David Cook – performed Simon’s selection the Roberta Flack classic “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”, he chose it because it is one of the great songs of all time, chance to show originality – beginning more like original, rocked out second part of song – Randy said you can sing anything, but needed more rock – Paula said one of my favorite songs, you’re second favorite performer of it – Simon said one of your best performances this season, this is what makes you brilliant, Round 1 goes to Cook and Cowell.

Round 1 Rankings – 1. David Cook 2. Syesha Mercado 3. David Archuleta.

Round 2 Contestants Choices –

David Archuleta – “With You” by Chris Brown – flat in points, breathy, just a faster paced ballad – Randy said not right song, not believable – Paula said right tone, great job – Simon said like a Chihuahua trying to be a tiger, awkward, not really you.

Syesha Mercado – “Fever” by Peggy Lee – surprised she chose such an old song, too much acting, very cabaret, nice ending – Randy said interesting song choice, sang amazingly well, great performance – Paula said not sure it shows who Syesha is as an artist – Simon said you will regret that decision tomorrow, could have proved she was a contemporary artist, instead lame cabaret.

David Cook – “Dare You to Move” by Switchfoot – on guitar, nice – Randy said great song choice, not your best, pitchy – Paula said hard to get a whole song in, just got started then it was the end – Simon said not the best melodic song.

Round 2 Rankings – 1. David Cook 2. Syesha Mercado 3. David Archuleta.

David Archuleta – “Longer” by Dan Fogelberg – shocker another ballad, nice song for his voice, too many runs, eyes are still closed way too much – Randy said another hot one – Paula said lovely performance – Simon said sang song well, song itself ‘horrible’ and ‘gooey’, done enough to get you into finals.

Syesha Mercado – “Hit Me Up” by Gia Farrell – just ok, but certainly cutest she has looked – Randy said ok for me, ‘ahright’ for me – Paula said song from soundtrack of “Happy Feet”, did well but don’t know if it will be enough to get into the finals, Simon said better than second song, Sam Cooke song last week was her best.

David Cook – “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” by Aerosmith – perfect song for him, would like to have heard more, why did we see more of the musicians than David? – Randy said ok for me, predictable – Paula said see ‘ya in the finals – Simon said one of the great songs of all time, David Cook wins the night.

Round 3 Rankings – 1. David Cook 2. David Archuleta 3. Syesha Mercado.

In my opinion David Cook clearly won the night. If he were allowed to sing “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” in its entirety, it could have been one of AI’s most amazing moments. Syesha Mercado was much more comfortable this week and came in second. Little David Archuleta sang two similar ballads and the third was out of his comfort zone. But how will America vote? Will it be A David vs. David Finale? Who will be the Top 2 of Season 7? Results Wednesday night on Fox.
