Jake Gyllenhaal to Star in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Jerry Bruckheimer's big-budget adaptation of Ubisoft's hit video game has found its leading character and leading lady for what Disney hopes to follow-up Pirates' success. Jake Gyllenhaal has landed the part of Prince while Gemma Arterton, who is currently working on Quantum of Solace, stars opposite as leading lady.
Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a prince in sixth-century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.
The adaptation marks the first time Gyllenhaal and Bruckheimer have ever worked together. Bruckheimer will exec produce.
"He's a wonderful actor," Bruckheimer said. "He's someone I've been watching for a long time and somebody I've always wanted to work with."
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time will start production this July in Morocco and London with Mike Newell set to direct off a script by Doug Miro and Carlo Bernard, Boaz Yakin and the game's creator, Jordan Mechner.
