American Idol Season 7 Finale

American Idol
According to Randy, this was a Three Dawg Night.
The show opened with a boxing ring and the declaration, “Let’s get ready to rumble”. I actually missed Ryan saying “This is American Idol”. The stupid boxing metaphor was used throughout and was carried much too far. It made a mockery of the finale. In addition, this ate up a huge amount of the hour.
Season 7 American Idol Finale Recap
Round 1 – song chosen by recording icon Clive Davis – Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber made a reprise as mentor.
David Cook – U2’s “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” – looked so comfortable performing, interacted with audience, star quality, good version – Randy said great way to start off, hot – Paula said we have found David Cook in great voice – Simon said phenomenal.
David Archuleta – Elton John’s “Don’t Let the Sun Go down on Me” (a much more emotion evoking choice on Clive’s part than the song for David Cook) – nice job on this ballad, strong ending – Randy said dawg one of the best performances of the whole season, crazy vocals – Paula said goose bumps, the sun is never going down on you, stunning performance – Simon said tonight’s performance arguably the best you’ve done so far, Round 1 to Archuleta.
Round 2 – song from the list of 10 top entries in Idol song competition.
David Cook – “Dream Big” – sappy song, but he made the most of it, showed his versatility – Randy said song ok, sung your face off – Paula said song in your heart, guitar in your hand – Simon said bit of a lightweight (another boxing term – this was old before it started), didn’t feel like a winning moment, 6 ½ out of 10.
David Archuleta – “In This Moment” – apparently this song was the AI contest winner, shocker he picked a ballad, ok performance – Randy said not crazy about the song, in the zone dawg, you could sing the phone book – Paula said another heartfelt performance, on fire tonight – Simon said chose the better song, loved the egotistical lyric, Round 2 to David Archuleta.
Round 3 – song of contestant’s choice.
David Cook – “The World I Know” by Collective Soul – beautifully done, tender and tearful moment, has grown into greatness before our eyes – Randy said nice, sensitive side of DC, nice job, kind of record you should make – Paula said standing in your truth, integrity and originality – Simon said you are one of the nicest most sincere contestants we’ve ever had, wrong song choice, should have sung “Billie Jean” or “Hello” (David replied saying “I thought this was a progression and why do something I’ve already done”).
David Archuleta – “Imagine” by John Lennon – his third (and final) ballad of the night, a little more theatrical than the first time he performed it – Randy said dawg so good exactly what this show is about, the best singer Season 7 right here – Paula said left me speechless, stunning – Simon said this show is about finding a star, one of the great finals, you came out here to win, what we noticed was a knockout.
Ruben Studdard closed the show with “Celebrate Me Home” accompanied with video of our idol contestants.
My final break down from the best to… well this time the other - I am painfully aware the voting may not reflect by opinion:
David Cook – is my AI – talented, versatile, original, charismatic – ready for stardom.
David Archuleta – is cute, dependable, performances are very one dimensional, often appears nervous.
Season 7 ends tonight with the two hour results show. It is billed as a jam packed extravaganza with performances by the AI Top 10, George Michael, Season 4 Idol Carrie Underwood, The Jonas Brothers and more. Who will take it all David Cook or David Archuleta? We bring the curtain down on Season 7 Wednesday night on Fox.
