Though it seems that The Tourist has been on the adaptation chopping block for some time, Warner Bros. has only begun to make their first moves in adapting the Olen Steinhauer novel. Not only does the studio have Anthony Peckham onboard to adapt the material, but the project could quickly become a starring vehicle for none other than George Clooney.
Clooney Looking to The Tourist
Warner Bros acquired film rights to The Tourist last fall. The story is a contemporary international thriller about a spy who risks everything to reveal a conspiracy after he's accused of a murder he didn't commit.
The project is right up Peckham's alley, as he recently handled scripts such as Human Factor, a project starring Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. He also did a rewrite on Sherlock Holmes, for which Guy Ritchie has come aboard to direct, and Book of Eli, a film that Denzel Washington is looking to get involved with.
But enough with the namedropping, Clooney can next be seen in the Coen Brother-directed Burn After Reading, where he will co-star opposite Brad Pitt, John Malkovich, Frances McDormand, Tilda Swinton and Richard Jenkins. Damn, more namedropping!
