The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
Let me start by saying that I am a huge fan of The Mummy franchise. Laughs and adventure in a semi-Indy format is always a winner, and Brendan Fraser has the role of Rick O'Connell down pat. While I thought the second film wasn't as good as the first, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is looking like a return to format; save the fact that it takes place in China instead of Egypt.
While we continue to wait for the film's feature trailer -- yes, the teaser did show tons of footage -- it looks like Universal Pictures is already testing out their latest product.
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor Seen and Screened
The good people at AICN have received the first screening report for The Mummy 3 and it is extremely positive.
One of the pleasures of the first Mummy was its travelogue quality, and its setting in a time where discoveries — and the consequences of discoveries — could be made. That whole feeling is very present here, and its simplicity energizes a story that is in many ways unremarkable... It was probably a safe bet on the part of the producers to base the structure of this film on the first one.
Enough details. This is a fun, action-packed and visually spectacular with great momentum and great locations. I would not go so far as to say that it is the best of the three, but it is way better than Mummy Returns and a worthy follow-up to the first one WHICH I WATCH WHAT SEEMS LIKE EVERY DAMN SUNDAY ON STARZ OR USA whether I like it or not. That’s the best thing about Mummy films. You just like them, and I liked this one very much.
The review goes into a ton of details about the film, so you might not want to read it. If you don't mind a few spoilers, then check out the screening report for The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperorhere.
