Signs Signs
After enjoying The Happening so much I wanted to go back and see some more M. Night Shyamalan subtlety. Signs just came out on Blu Ray so it is a good example, though it's not very visual.

On Blu-Ray: Signs

It's al about a small town. The concept was Independence Day for the people who weren't Will Smith, so there aren't any epic landscapes.

There are some sharp fields of grain. It's not a total window into rural Pennsylvania, but it's pretty sharp and green. There are some shiny cars and tin foil helmets. Nighttime scenes are dark with only flashlight beams to offer flashes of bright color. The basement climax offers some nice crusty, chipped details.

Of course, the alien looks even sillier in this much detail. He's still jerky, even kind of faded perhaps with the age of the visual effect. But the film is solid on Blu Ray for what it is.
