Zack Snyder took a night off from post production on Watchmen to accept his Saturn Award for 300. With the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Films already anticipating his next film, Snyder gave everyone an update.

Zack Snyder Watches the Watchmen

"We're in the editing process," Snyder said. "I feel like just from looking at the first cuts of the movie that I think it's shaping up to be, as far as I'm concerned, for me as a fan, I'm pretty happy with it."

The current cut is indeed three hours long, and Snyder is fighting the studio to leave it alone. "I fight them every day to not take out the hardcore stuff that makes it Watchmen. They're like, 'Are you kidding me? It's an R-rated movie? It costs us this much money? It's this long?' That's the fight and I think all the stuff that's in there right now is the stuff that makes the experience of Watchmen, Watchmen. Manhattan looks awesome."

Snyder did put together a "sizzle reel" of potential visual effects shots to show with what the three hour cut could be filled. "Pretty much I put together just shots, even with green screen, there was no visual effects. It was just some cool stuff, but this could be awesome, this could be awesome and then it ended up being super awesome. They were able to go like, 'Wow, you know what? That has potential to be cool.' Then what we did was slowly those visual effects shots we've kind of tried to get in early so we could get something together early to show."

Expect to see some early footage at this year's San Diego Comic Con. That's one thing that Warner Brothers Marketing understands. "The one thing they do know, at Comic Con we are going to have some cool [stuff]. They get that. Marketing's like, 'Yeah, Watchmen and Comic Con, yeah, that makes sense.'"

Watchmen opens to theaters March 6th, 2009.
