Though it was The Weinstein Company who put us into a bit of a scare when it came to Fanboys, I have to give them a pat on the back for finally listening to the fans.
After an original copy of Fanboys, one that dealt with a friend who has cancer, started to get some great early buzz, TWC decided to make another copy of the film, but without the illness and therefore without the heart.
In short: The studio watered down the film's story to make it a bit more er, on the light side of the force. There was hope, however, when TWC announced that both copies of Fanboys would be viewed and it would be the viewers who got to decide which version was better. So, what copy one?
Original Fanboys Wins
The good people at AICN have received an email announcing that TWC has decided to distribute the original version of Fanboys.
Fellow Star Wars Fans,
The battle to save Fanboys is over! AND WE WON!
The Weinstein Company has decided to listen to the outcry from Star Wars fans around the globe! They have restored the original plotline and have given the movie back to the Star Wars fans who made it!
The film has been given back to the original director and he is currently editing the final version at Skywalker Ranch! The original cut of the movie will be released in theaters later this year! And there are rumors of a sneak preview of the film happening at the San Diego Comic-Con!
We hereby end our boycott of the Weinstein Company! The studio has earned our respect and gratitude by actually listening to their target audience.
FYI: We thought TWC would have come to a decision way back in January. I guess they really had to think about this one carefully. Good to see they made the right choice.
