School of Rock
Was School of Rock that big of a hit? I'm trying to think back, but can't remember. Either way, the film pulled strong enough numbers for Paramount Pictures to greenlight a sequel.
Back to School of Rock
Paramount Pictures is developing a School of Rock sequel with Jack Black attached to reprise his role as rock star wannabe/substitute teacher Dewey Finn, who in the original film turned a class of fifth-grade high-achievers into high-voltage rock 'n' rollers.
Paramount Pictures is following the "if the clock ain't broke" rule by having Richard Linklater come back to direct. School of Rock scribe Mike White has also been brought back to write the sequel, which is currently titled School of Rock 2: America Rocks.
Why is Paramount so excited about getting School back in session? Well, it turns out that School of Rock was a financial smash for the studio. Costing only $30 million to make, the film ended up earning $131 million worldwide.
Pixar's latest toon entered its third weekend with a respectable decline of 43%. The animation pulled in another $18.5 million, bringing its total cume to $162.8 million.
