The Dark Knight
While the early estimates placed the opening (domestic) bow for The Dark Knight at $155.3 million, it turns out that the film made a bit more.
Dark Knight Makes More
Three million more in fact. The final count has come in and we are now being told that The Dark Knight earned $158.3 million domestically over the three-day weekend, easily beating out Spider-Man 3. Considering that I thought Spidey 3 sucked and TDK was awesome, I for one am happy to see the record fall.
With the help of Mamma Mia!, The Dark Knight helped make last weekend the biggest three-day weekend ever in terms of total gross.
As we mentioned before, the sequel will likely make more domestically in its first week than Batman Begins did in its entire run. While speculators are crediting Heath Ledger's early demise for the film's strong BO, it should also be pointed out that the film will be one of the best of 2008. Hell, IMDB thinks it's the best movie ever.
