Tim Burton and Disney have found their Alice for the upcoming re-imagining of Lewis Carroll's classic fantasy novel Alice in Wonderland.
Mia Wasikowska is Alice
When we say re-imagining we really mean Burton's take on the story, which could mean just about anything.
The film, based on a script by Linda Woolverton (The Lion King), will be produced by longtime Burton collaborator Richard Zanuck. It will be shot with live-action and performance-capture footage and presented in Disney Digital 3-D.
After a long search for the tentpole's title character, Burton and Disney have agreed on Mia Wasikowska. The young actress from Australia is currently wrapping up negotiations to play Alice in the film. They got her just in time too, as filming is expected to begin this fall; pushed back from spring.
Just in case you don't recognize the actress, Mia is a regular on HBO's In Treatment and will next appear alongside Daniel Craig in Edward Zwick's war drama, Defiance.
