I knew The Dark Knight was looking good this weekend when a few of my friends called complaining that the film was still selling out. You're right - don't sit in the front row, as the film is way too good and too long for any sort of discomfort.

Thanks to another estimated $75.6 million domestically during its second bow, The Dark Knight has shot clear through the $300 million barrier to knock down yet another record.

Dark Knight Breaks $300 Million in 10 Days

While it took Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 16 days to pass the $300 mark, therefore giving it the record, The Dark Knight stole the title by doing the same feat six days quicker.

With the film's ticket sales remaining incredibly high, Warner Bros. now thinks the film has a shot of earning more than $500 million domestically, making it only the second film to do so. Who was the first? One hint: James Cameron. That's right, it was Titanic that made $600.8 million in North America alone. It turns out weeping girls make a super-strong audience.

While The Dark Knight continues to sell strong, the box office wasn't entirely dependent on the film. The Will Ferrell-John C. Reilly comedy Step Brothers opened to a strong $30 million, giving the R-rated film the #2 spot over the weekend.

The musical adaptation of Mamma Mia! also continues to play strong amongst female audiences. At least, I'm hoping its female audiences. The film declined a miniscule 36% to $17.9 million over the weekend.

While the film had enough hype behind it, The X-Files: I Want to Believe was this weekend's only major disappointment. The sequel opened to an estimated $10.2 million. Weak, I know, but at least Duchovny still has Californication, which makes up for just about anything he could do wrong.
