Trading Places
Wow, Paramount keeps doing a knockout job on their '80s hits on Blu Ray. Trading Places was not a particularly visual movie but it still looks great. Early '80s film grain is minor and it's very clear and sharp.
Blu-Ray Review: Trading Places
Scenic Philadelphia looks gritty and cool in the winter. The Liberty Bell shines gold, but all the wood in the mansion shines also. There are lots of colors, crusty street environments, even the prison tile shows up in detail. Okay, you can see the brush strokes in close-ups of the portrait paintings. How's that~
Honestly, how do they remove the grain in these scenes and why can't everyone do it. Even the sky is solid and that's never clear! Although it is overcast so I will take that into account.
Baby faced Dan Aykroyd is smooth and shiny, and you get to see him transform to scruffy throughout the film in detail. Eddie Murphy look dangerous in his fast talking, pre-family friendly days.
There is some soft focus and blurry backgrounds but that's how it was shot. Occasional grainy scenes don't offend since 90% of the movie looks better than recent releases. And the boobies are fantastic!
