Pineapple Express
I'm sorry, I just don't think pot is cool. I've tried it. Didn't appeal to me. I think my brain's pretty awesome. It's been good to me. I don't like to alter it. So full disclosure, I can't relate to the world of Pineapple Express.
Movie Review: Pineapple Express
I can appreciate the style. It is the ultimate pothead movie. They definitely captured the mood of toking up and the various different degrees and subtleties of pothead stereotypes. It's just not a world that amuses me.
When it becomes the Seth Rogen action movie, then I got into it. Seeing Seth so panicked and freaked out as the anti-action hero was awesome.
They have great fun with action clichés. Then the non sequiturs and improv reactions punctuate the ridiculous fun of it all.
There's a lot less of the pop culture references, though I did enjoy the Jeff Goldblum name drop. They definitely focused the style more on a different culture. On the one hand, it's nice that they don't need that crutch. On the other hand, I miss it.
So the good news is, even if you're not into pot, there's plenty of fun stuff in Pineapple Express. If you like it all, then this must be the ultimate love letter to stoned slackers.
