Malin Akerman on Watchmen

Malin Akerman looks quite different in Watchmen. She has dark hair for one thing, then there's all the special effects that happen in the environment. Seeing footage for the first time at San Diego Comic Con was a big deal for the actress.

Malin Akerman is Silk Spectre II

"I think it's surreal," she said. "I just still can't believe it's becoming a reality. To do it and then see it is another thing. When you're doing it, you don't know what's going on. It's like a big roller coaster and you just go, go, go and then all of a sudden you get to see it. With the CGI, it's phenomenal. I think everyone, even some of my friends who were here, got tears in their eyes, who weren't even part of it but they just, it was so impactful. The images were just beautiful."

Akerman plays Silk Spectre II, the daughter of Sally Jupiter's Silk Spectre. Though not so far apart in age, the actresses conferred to work on their characters together.

"Every relationship you can find something to associate with so I think it was a really sort of lovely relationship before we even started shooting. Then it became more real as far as the dynamics of those characters."

Such collaborations expanded with director Zack Snyder, producer Debbie Snyder and the rest of the crew. "I think you always look for that when you look for a film. You hope that it's going to be collaborative and it sometimes can be frustrating when you get a big studio involved. They sometimes put their hands in it a bit too much and then all of a sudden the director doesn't get to create something that he really wants to create. It becomes a mixer so that was the one thing that was for me the most amazing experience is that Zack with all these visions was allowed to do what he wanted to do. They gave him, they just said, 'Go for it.' That for us in turn becomes a phenomenal experience."

Watchmen opens to theaters March 6th, 2009.
