Tom Cruise's image might be on the up and up. With audiences anxiously awaiting to see his supposedly-hilarious cameo in Tropic Thunder, the actor might begin using comedy to his advantage. With Angelina Jolie replacing Cruise in Edwin A. Salt, the actor has found some free time to try another comedy. But this time it's no cameo.
Tom Cruise for Food Fight
Tom Cruise is 'loosely' attached to Food Fight, a warmhearted comedy about a snooty New York chef who is forced to cook meals at a school cafeteria, with Cruise playing the role of the chef.
Adam Brooks, who recently wrote Definitely, Maybe, has been picked up by Universal (through their banner Working Title) to pen the screenplay. Drillbit Taylor helmer Steven Brill was in talks to direct, but that fell through.
Food Fight would represent a departure for Cruise, who has only dabbled in the comedic genre since his career took off back in 1983.
Since Tom Cruise's cameo in Tropic Thunder is no longer a secret, we can say that he plays an overweight, over-the-top studio exec. According to the screening reports, his brief role is the film's most memorable.
Cruise's next film, Valkyrie, remains true to form as it is very noncomedic.
