The Secret Life of Bees
For those of you who are upset about my subheading for The Secret Life of Bees, please know that I am only kidding. For some reason I have been getting in more and more trouble for my non-PC statements.
You do have to admit, however, that this does make a fitting (if not humorous) tagline:
"Racism has never tasted so sweet."
No? How about:
"Racism - our sticky past..."
The Secret Life of Bees Trailer
Set in South Carolina in 1964, the film is the moving tale of Lily Owens (Fanning) a 14 year-old girl who is haunted by the memory of her late mother (Burton). To escape her lonely life and troubled relationship with her father (Bettany), Lily flees with Rosaleen (Hudson), her caregiver and only friend, to a South Carolina town that holds the secret to her mother's past. Taken in by the intelligent and independent Boatwright sisters (Latifah, Okonedo and Keys), Lily finds solace in their mesmerizing world of beekeeping, honey and the Black Madonna.
Judging by the film's first trailer, the adaptation looks pretty sharp. Paul Bettany's Aryan features makes it easy to see him as your usual redneck racist. You can check out the trailer for The Secret Life of Bees in Quicktime at Yahoo! Movies or watch it below (fullscreen it):
The Secret Life of Bees opens to theaters on October 17th.
