Tropic Thunder
Though people seem to either love or 'dislike' Tropic Thunder, that hasn't stopped the Ben Stiller romp from enjoying the top spot at the BO for a second weekend.
Tropic Thunder Holds Strong
Tropic Thunder slipped only 38% to earn $16.1 million over its second weekend to push Anna Faris' The House Bunny to #2 during its opening bow. The Playboy-powered comedy came just short with $15.1 million.
Besides the miniscule drop, Tropic Thunder owes its victory to Saturday, which earned 25% more than Friday with $6.5 million.
Once predicted to be the box office champ, Death Race's negative reviews threw some unexpected speed humps in the road. The actioner took the #3 spot with $12.3 million during its opening bow. Universal can't be that disappointed, however, considering that there are some other studios that fared way worse.
While Rainn Wilson and The Rocker sounded great, the film opened to mixed reviews and fell short of even landing in the top ten. $4.3 million? That's more garage band than anything.
With the soft openings, the studios are hoping for a better showing come Labor Day.
