RocknRolla
With what we've seen so far from RocknRolla, I can only assume that the film is Guy Ritchie's return to form. While I don't want to get my hopes up and start thinking we have another Snatch or Lock Stock on our hands, it is impossible not to. Everything about this film looks badass, including the opening credits.
So now we have two of the first screening reports for the film and they couldn't disagree more.
RocknRolla Screening Reports
The good people at AICN have posted two of the first screening reports for RocknRolla. While one claims that it is a mastering of the craft for Guy Ritchie, the other didn't like it all.
Now when I say complicated I do not mean that you cant follow the story. Its refreshing to have a film that keeps the audience trying to guess how one scene or set of characters relate to another and seemingly small characters or events all connect and play out to complete the story to satisfaction by the end. The film is full of many elements that you would associate with a Guy Richie film, violence, bad language, pitch black comedy, innovative camera techniques and fast cuts. However these all serve the story and perhaps more so than any of his previous work it shows more focus, cohesion, polish and mastery of the craft than any of his other films. Here there is a clear sense of evolution in his work even though it would be easy to say that there was little revolution in yet another London based gangster film, this has so much more than any of the poor cousins of that sub genre that currently grace (straight to) DVD shelves.
Okay - That was a snippet from the positive review. To read the rest of that and to check out the negative report, head on over to AICN.
