J.J. Abrams has discovered another kick ass actress for a strong female role in his new show. Fringe casts newcomer Anna Torv as an agent investigating the paranormal, and of course kicking ass.
Torv Investigates Fringe
"It's great," she said. "It makes my life at work fun. I get to wear flat shoes and run really hard and I feel strong and tough. This is the first time I've ever had to use a gun, so we had a little bit of training with that and then little bits and pieces. We've just started so I'm just starting to do some fight training which I'm really looking forward to. They freaked out when I had to do some of the driving though, because I'm from Australia and we drive on the other side of the street. Josh is a little bit scared as I'm looking over the wrong shoulder reversing back."
All that stuff makes the job easier for Torv. "I actually really love props, guns, anything that's active and moving because it gets you totally out of your own head and it gives you some kind of focus. You're kind of more engaged because there's more truth to what you're doing because you're actually holding it so I love all of that stuff. I love to be physically engaged."
Coming from Australia, it's been a fast paced ride leading Torv to the new show. "I'm from Australia. I've done a couple of television shows in Australia, a lot of theater. I trained at a theater school. I just finished doing a TV show for the BBC in the UK. Then this opportunity came my way and I couldn’t be more exciting."
Auditioning was fairly easy, as she was just right for the role. "I've found in my life that the parts that you're right for are the parts that you get. It's really usually quite easy because you're kind of right. I auditioned and the guys saw it. I got the call and flew pretty quickly to Toronto and we started."
Dealing with paranormal conspiracies on a week to week basis, Torv is curious to see what comes next. "As far as the paranormal, I'm a bit of a squib myself. All the gross stuff, I didn't have any interest in prior to this. But the conspiracy stuff I think, you guys have seen it, I'm sure I can say it, but the last line, one of the last scenes, Kirk's character talking, I'm interested in that, like who has the knowledge, who has the power, who knows what and why don't we?"
