It's not a stretch to see Ron Perlman as a badass biker. Most of his tough guy performances fit the bill, just without the wheels. Actually learning to ride for the new series Sons of Anarchy has been a challenge though.
Ron Perlman Rides With Sons of Anarchy
"I'm still in the process of learning how to ride," Said Perlman. "It's not going very well but I have major medical, so should be fine. I think a bunch of us had to learn how to ride. I'm probably the biggest tinhorn of all but it's the magic of movies. We'll figure out a way to sell it, I guess. It's terrifying. I'm not going to lie to you. Luckily all my little mishaps have been little mishaps and I'm trying to keep it that way. But it's a 1000 pound bike with no small amount of torque. I'm an old dog. It's hard to learn new tricks."
Clay Morrow is the leader of the Sons of Anarchy, a group of former military veterans who now run guns on the open road. "These guys are all guys who pretty much came to this after having given the ultimate sacrifices to their government. Then they came home and they got a little bit disillusioned about what heroes and warriors are supposed to be greeted like and formed an alternate kind of things to depend on, an alternate family, an alternate political structure. They're completely self-sufficient."
Sons of Anarchy
Though their name says "anarchy," they do not operate a free for all. They just oppose the formal government. "Not completely anarchistic. They don't want anything to do with any organization but their own. There's a sort of ruthlessness that comes with protecting the values that they always thought should be the great American values but found out that that American dream that was being shoved at them was a little short of something you could truly depend on. So there's a very compelling sociopolitical point of view that they have. The club is the world. There's nothing outside the club. Everything that one wants and needs, it's a self-contained society that supports itself and nurtures itself and does all the things that a society should do."
Dramatic conflicts will arise, as Clay is now married to the late founder's wife and raising his son, Jax. "My guy is one of the founding members and he was partners with Jax Teller's dad from the inception of the club. Now he's kind of running the show and he doesn't accept failure. He doesn’t accept failure on any level. He's very, very convinced that what he does, he does for the greater good."
